Compost Training for Landscape Professionals – January 27, 2011
The City of San José has joined with industry expert, Ron Alexander, as well as Newby Island Composting and Zanker Road Resource Recovery, to present a workshop on January 27, 2011 on how compost applications create sustainable sites. Participants will learn how compost can manage drought, stormwater, and erosion through innovative site Best Management Practices (BMPs). Training will also feature lessons learned and soil improvement techniques. Participants may choose from two sessions, 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm OR 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm. A tour of Happy Hollow Park’s Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) landscape from 2:30-3:30 pm is also included. Compost for Municipal Landscape Professionals – February 26, 2009
The City of San José joined with the CIWMB as well as Newby Island Composting and Zanker Road Resource Recovery to present a workshop designed to help municipal landscapers lower costs, reduce chemical use, conserve water and save time by using standardized compost specifications as adopted by Cal Trans. Expert speakers included Ron Alexander, international compost marketer, and Vic Claussen, Soils Researcher from UC Davis. Anaerobic Digestion Workshop – November 17, 2009
The City joined with the Integrated Waste Management Board, California Organics Recycling Council, US Composting Council, technology vendors and haulers including Republic/Allied, Recology, Waste Management and Zanker Road Resource Recovery to present a workshop on anaerobic digestion. The agenda included overviews of technology, policy, and case studies, as well as vendor presentations and displays. Workshop proceedings link here.
Anaerobic Digestion Workshop – April 12, 2010
The City teamed with the California Organics Recycling Council, US Composting Council, CalRecycle, Climate Action Reserve, Agromin, Community Recycling, Rainbow Disposal, Recology, and Zanker Road Resource Recovery to present a workshop on anaerobic digestion at the 2010 BioCycle Conference in San Diego. The agenda included overviews of technology, policy, and case studies, as well as vendor presentations and networking. Workshop proceedings link here.
