Go Green Iniative: photo of a group of students from Lee Mathson Middle Schools sorting bottles and cans collected from classrooms for recycling. The Go Green Initiative is a simple, comprehensive, environmental program that unites parents, teachers, and students to create a culture of conservation on campus. The program involves students at every level and takes a comprehensive approach to help schools evaluate every aspect of their environmental impact.

It also provides schools with simple checklists and tools to examine everything from recycling to unsafe pesticides used on school grounds. Begun by parent and PTA president Jill Buck in Pleasanton, California, GGI has now been adopted in 650 schools in 39 states, along with schools in Europe, Mexico, and Africa.

The Go Green Initiative is the beginning of an important new shift in the way we treat our world. This grassroots program promotes the very best character traits in children and adults. Through a simple, responsible shift in behavior, we can protect human health through environmental stewardship.
