Reusable Bags – Case Studies

Seattle

Seattle Public Utilities encourages customers to reduce waste and make the right choice for the environment by taking reusable bags with them when they go shopping. Find more information about the proposed Green Fee on plastic bags and other background material.

City of Los Angeles

The City of Los Angeles has partnered with the Progressive Bag Alliance, Unified Western Grocers, Los Angeles Conservation Corps, and various environmental partners to publicize AB2449 and to implement a pilot at-store plastic bag recycling program that works for both mandated and voluntary retailers. The pilot targets retailers in the City’s designated “High Trash Areas.” Find more information about the program.

Los Angeles County

The County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors adopted a comprehensive strategy to reduce single use bag consumption and litter while increasing recycling in the unincorporated areas of the County of Los Angeles. Find more information about the program and the cities participating.
